Kiyomiya is a pop-up dining concept created by chef Jason Knowles. His journey in Japanese cuisine began in 1990, right here in Portland, Oregon, where he started his sushi apprenticeship.Under the guidance of master chef Hiroshi Ikegaya, Jason developed a strong foundation in traditional Japanese culinary arts. Born in Yokohama, Japan, and raised with both American and Japanese heritage, Jason brings a multicultural perspective to his cooking.The name Kiyomiya, which means “pure temple,” is his mother’s maiden name. By naming the business after her family, Jason not only expresses his deep love for his mother but also honors his Japanese roots.
